Assignment 11

My infographic was inspired by Canva for assignment 11. Canva has several templates for infographics, and they are all clean and simple which is a design style that I love. The color schemes on Canva’s templates reminded me to keep in mind, the font styles and colors during my design.

I came across a website that has infographics, specifically for the purpose of illustrating processes. I immediately knew I wanted to show a process in my illustration, so I chose butterflies. This website had many helpful ideas.

Assignment 7

I loved Garfield as a kid, because my elementary school librarian would always have Garfield comics because she loved them so much. As soon as I saw that the assignment required a comic, I immediately thought of Garfield.

I also love grammar comics, puns and jokes. Grammar is very tricky and descriptive grammar can be justified using any reason.A number of the comics from Grammar Comic Strips inspired me for this assignment.

Design Challenge #2

Week 4 (September 15 th – September 22)

The theme of the week was CARP which stands for contrast, alignment, repetition and proximity. The four elements are key concepts to keep in mind when designing graphics.

The inspiration I chose was a website that I feel demonstrates CARP. I want to be able to design clean graphics, and this website was a great example of that.

EdTech Defintion Graphic

The Definition Graphic aligns with the AECT 5 Theoretical Foundations Standard. To complete this artifact, I researched the definition of educational technology and designed a graphic illustrating the definition.

I used Piktochart for the first time to create my graphic. My graphic was highlighted to purpose of EdTech to create and use technology to facilitate learning. I used icons to express the use of technology to communicate ideas and messages.

EdTech School Evaluation

This artifact aligned with the AECT Standard 5 – Accessing/Evaluating, that states candidates apply formal inquiry strategies in assessing and evaluating processes and resources and performance.

I demonstrated this standard by evaluating the technological use at the I after school program I tutor at. I completed the School Technology Environment Evaluation Google Sheets survey after I gathered information and observations at the facility.

During this artifact, I learned the about the Technology Maturity Model, that connects the program’s technology and their uses. I completed the Maturity Model Benchmarks rubric and summarized my findings in a Google Doc.

Flipped Classroom

The flipped artifact demonstrates my ability to assess and evaluate the effective integration of appropriate technologies and instructional materials. I assessed and evaluated the effective integration of the flipped classroom model.

The flipped classroom model reverses the traditional learning environment by delivering instructional content, typically online, outside of the classroom. Activities that may have traditionally been considered homework are moved into the classroom. In a flipped classroom, students watch online lessons, collaborate in online discussions, or conduct research at home while using concepts in the classroom with the guidance of a mentor.

I assessed and evaluated the flipped classroom model and presented my findings in a Google Slide. The Google Slides applied the Zen Presentation Principles, to design a successful presentation.

EDTECH Professional Ethics Animation

This artifact explored the AECT Code of Professional Ethics and I illustrated my knowledge of the subject by creating a Powtoon animation.

I created a script that depicted a scenario where an EdTech educator’s Facebook posts were in violation of the Code of Professional Ethics. The violations included the following standards:

Commitment to Society Principle 1 states the member shall honestly represent the institution or organization with which that person is affiliated, and shall take adequate precautions to distinguish between personal and institutional or organizational views.

Commitment to the Profession Principle 1 states the the member shall accord just and equitable treatment to all members of the profession in terms of professional rights and responsibilities including being actively committed to providing opportunities for culturally and intellectually diverse points of view in publications and conferences.

This was my first time using Powtoon, and enjoyed working with this tool. I found this the most useful tool learned to so far.

RSS in Education Artifact

The RSS in education artifact demonstrates my ability to select and use technological resources and processes to support student learning and to enhance their pedagogy, AECT Standard 1-Content Knowledge.

I learned in this artifact how optimize my research abilities using an RSS (Really Simple Syndication). RSS is an aggregator that collects updates from websites or blog. I used this technological resource and created a lesson plan for adult english language learners. The lesson plan compared english vowels using the technological tool, PRAAT to conduct a phonetic analysis. To conclude the lesson, the learner would practice their oral motor exercises to strengthen their articulators.

In the second half of the artifact, I demonstrated my knowledge and mastery of RSS by creating a screencast using the free Chrome extension. In the screencast I defined RSS and its benefits, and how to use and organize my RSS feed.
